If you want to read the best historical book of a contemporary author, this could be it! And you will forget about Fingersmith and The Crimson Petal And The White.

What a great book. It is very rare to find contemporary authors who dare to write a text that is complete and un-insulting to the reader. A classic out of time, this novel and the author are reminiscent of Dickens erudite.
