“I love this book. I love the language, the juggling of dialect and points of view, and their changes over generations.
Unlike many film adaptations which portray Heathcliff and Cathy's romance as one of tender passion and quiet intensity, in the original source novel their relationship is much more violent and volatile than what is alluded to by most adaptations. It is a psychotic love story about the social toxicity of stagnant relationships, inter-class tensions, dogma, and jealousy. It's a wild ride that, as Virginia Woolf said, requires more than the usual suspension of disbelief, but this necessity puts Wuthering Heights into the context of a comedy. This only adds to my fascination and bewilderment.”
