“Yeah, there were a lot of haters in this novel. Heathcliffe is scary mean. People can be pretty dark though. If you want happy Jane Eyre by Emily's sister Charlotte is a better choice.”
“Looking through these discussions, you either love this book or you hate it. I personally am in the hate it camp. But I want to understand why people like the book so much. I thought the characters were mean and spiteful, and don't understand how it can be considered a romance. But at the same time, I really am trying to understand the appeal. I am wondering that if I had read this book in a class and had discussed all of the nuances, I might have enjoyed it more. So my question goes out to those that absolutely LOVE this book. Why? What is it about the story and the characters that you enjoy so much? ”
“I am rereading the book, and I'm discovering that I didn't unertand how some scenes could actually be hilarious. The narrator is an obtrusive fool that won't take no for an answer, and is constantly abused by the Heathcliff gang. I only partly remember some of the film adaptations, but I never felt that these comic situations were rendered on screen, which is a shame. It's a refreshing surprise to find them in such a passionate and dark love story.”
“its alright i guess had to read it for my ap class but its hard to understand but was a good book:[”
“This was kind of confusing but the storyline is good. ”
“It's difficult to read because it is poorly written. In the version I read the introduction talked about the Bronte sisters and how Emily's was the last to be published and how difficult it was for it to ever happen. I think this is because the publishers recognized poor writing when they saw it.It is a much better essay on child abuse than a romantic novel. If you are wondering how to abuse your children, this is a great handbook. If you're wondering how abused children turn out, this is a sufficient answer. I can't conceive how it is considered a romance. I don't even feel as though Cathy and Heathcliff are the main characters. If you want to know what it was like back then, and you like gothic romance, then read her sister's book. Jane Eyre is a true classic.”
“i like the book but it confused me at first. but now i understand:) ”
“Does anyone else feel like they may have come to Wuthering Heights too late to love it? I'm fairly certain that if I had read it when I was sixteen, I would have bought into Heathcliff and Cathy's thwarted relationship as the most romantic thing I'd ever heard of. Coming to it at thirty-seven, though, I'm just disgusted. Heathcliff is a sociopath and Cathy's a narcissist who deserves what she gets. Between the two of them they manage to blight everything they touch, and I don't know who's worse - Cathy for doing it because she's too lazy and selfish to control herself, or Heathcliff for doing it out of sheer malevolence. And the people who put up with them! Isabella Linton is so far the only character I have any respect for. It's a brilliant example of Gothic writing and well worth reading as part of the literary canon, but seriously. I just want to shake everyone. ”
“its a nice book , but its too saad...i mean i dn't like happy endingz that much but this book needed one . ”
“I've been trying to read this book for the last year and a half.... I'm stuck on like the tenth page. HELP!?”
