I'm torn in half about this novel. Usually faithful to the classics, I read the original, unabridged version of this book in university. Perhaps because we had to analysis every section of it made it difficult to read; besides that, I found the Defoe's writing style to be unnecessarily sophisticated his pace to be a drag. If this was not a compulsory read, I never would have finished it. However, at the end of the book, I did have a better appreciation for the story that was related, and came to the conclusion that it really is one of the fundamental all-time classics. But my reading experience was not an enjoyable one.

The ultimate adventure novel. A dream of every child, that is still trapped in our imaginations, being trapped alone on an island, trying to survive and finally making a life for yourself there. Daniel Defoe simply put our dreams into words and created a wonderful story.

Okay so there are about a zillion words in this book, but it truly kept my attention the whole way through. I enjoyed reading it.

"The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, where in all the Men perished but Himself. This is a good time. It doesn't seem as old as it is.
