Yes | No“Rebecca McClanahan turns what has the potential to be a monotone lecture on adjectives into an intriguing Monet of words. This book is dreamy and picturesque, without the pictures. Her style of writing is proof that she is an authority on writing descriptively. Her gleaming authoritative writing is filled with examples from literary greats to the profound poetry of young children.
This book is a medley of direction, education, motivation, and inspiration. The author begins by aggressively denouncing descriptions as being merely adjectives. She begins with advice on "show don't tell" and delves deeply into senses and introspection. Suggested writing exercises are at the end of many chapters to help you practice coloring your word paintings. For anyone who wants to move from the color red to fiery hot brimstone, Word Painting is a must for your collection.

“Love this book!”
