While in Ireland, Mandie and her friends become intrigued with leprechauns. They meet Molly, a young Irish girl, while out on a walk. Molly claims to have seen leprechauns and asks Mandie and Celia to help her catch one so that she can give his pot of gold to her mother. Molly wants to spare her mother working long hours in the linen mill.

Mandie and her friends find it hard to help Molly hunt for leprechauns because Mandie's grandmother keeps them busy with sightseeing. When Mandie's Uncle Ned catches up to them, he helps them search for Molly and for leprechauns.

On their way to a boat excursion, the traveling party is turned back by a fire at the linen mill. They walk to investigate and discover that Molly is trapped inside. Molly's mother tries to get to her, but is trapped herself when part of the building collapses. Mandie rescues Molly. Molly's mother is rescued by the firemen and taken to the hospital. Molly goes back to the hotel with Mandie and her friends.

It is revealed that the woman is not Molly's biological mother but was a friend of Molly's mother who took the girl in so that she wouldn't have to go to an orphanage. Mrs. Taft suddenly decides to return home rather than continue their trip to Scotland and Wales. The Irish authorities locate Molly's aunt in the United States and Mrs. Taft agrees to take Molly to the United States and deliver her to the aunt.
