I never thought I would like this book. I wanted to read more books from the Easton Press list of 100 Greatest Books. This was on the list and in my library, so I started reading it. I am only about half way through it and have been reading it a little each day and then contemplating on what I read. I usually gobble up books and finish one a day. This one is like a fine drink that is sipped slowly and savored.

I found it hard to read because all the characters are shits so there was no empathy to make the book interesting. In comparison The Idiot is a much more satisfying read. Brothers Karamzov another hard slog.

A fantastic portrayal of the psychology of guilt, and, if not his best book, easily his most accessible.

I loved Dostoyevsky's thorough discussion of the power of the conscience to convict. This book kept me enthralled through every page. Amazing work.
