I loved Dostoyevsky's thorough discussion of the power of the conscience to convict. This book kept me enthralled through every page. Amazing work.

I did love this book, but I still dont think this was the best of his work. In my opinion, the Possessed was his best book, though I dont think it gets the attention that his other books do.

the best book i have read. The mental trauma and conflict of the protagonist intrigues the reader and is real and disturbing.

Raskolnikov's logical falicies are the same I find myself continuously slipping into, the whole "I am above the rules that govern the lives of others as long as I become great" idea seeps in unbidden.

Hi, i am quite intrigued by the following remark of yours "..even though the characters did seem to talk in circles and ramble on at points, even though it was necessary to the book.." Would you like to exemplify this remark with reference to the character of Raskolynkov?

No I haven't read the newest translation. I understand there is also a new translation of War and Peace. To be honest, I don't know if I will tackle the reading of another translation. There are so many other books that I wish to read! Have you read Marcel Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past.?" It is a remarkable work, although quite lengthy - a group of seven novels in two volumes. It is worthy of a complete reading.
