try reading Dicken's Mutual Friend and Bleak house too!! you will love them!! Too bad you haved up on Oliver Twist, its one of the veryryery best Dicken's has written. I find Oliver Twist a dissection of child labor in 18th century england. Dickens has a flair for character development that his his trademark. If you notice his characters are well developed and the plot is only secondaty!!

well, you put me on the spot. I've read Great Expectations, David Copperfield, Our Mutual Friend, A Christmas Carol..I tried Oliver Twist, but gave up. Dickens can can be too sprawling for my taste. I think Great Expectations is Dickens best of the ones I read - it's the most memorable one for me. I think it has to do with the way his characters are drawn - above all else.

Selina, What do you think is Dicken's best work and why? What have you read of his besides "The Tale of Two Cities"?

Not Dickens best work. The writing tends to be flowery. I'm not sure how I made it through and to be honest, I can't remember that much about it. Some gruesome scenes..ladies knitting by the guillotine..

believe it or not, this book almost ruined me for all lit when i was in high school. when teachers lead you to believe lit is only comprised of dickens and shakespeare, some go running. like me. thank goodness for college. it's almost like 9th graders shouldn't be reading this in the first place...maybe i'm ready for another go round...

The most poetic work from Dickens, too bad the characters are not memorable. The funny thing is, I enjoyed the abridged version that I've read years ago even more. I hate the ending, it could've been better and more sensible
