An enjoyable account of love lost and found. Handles well life's small and bigger tragedies, avoiding undue melodrama. A must for anyone interested in classical music, but also interesting to the uninitiated.

The ending of the book takes it to some other level. A better ending was not possible.
Wonder why Vikram Seth gave it the title of An Equal Music, when his protagonist has got so very disproportionate passions!

the world is split between people who like a suitable boy, and people who like aem. the two books are so markedly different that it doesn't seem implausible.. and imo aem is by far the better book. it's a book i've read thru and thru ad then turned back to page one to start again--and that doesn't happen too often, with me.
