This book was the first Fitzgerald read i picked up in my late junior year. i enjoyed the plot twists and the way gatsby longed for daisy and was later denied by death. its a great read if you havent yet picked this book up.

My favorite American novel. It is a classic in every way. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses wonderful symbolism throughout the novel for the downfall of the American dream. Every character I had empathy or sympathy for. This is the only book I've read more than once. It still gives me goosebumps.

REQUIRED READING - ELEVENTH GRADE: This novel is about a rich man who tries to win the heart of an airhead. The main characters are Gatsby, Nick, Daisy, and Tom. The theme is that you can't repeat the past. I did not like this book, I thought it was quite bland. However, I loved Fitzgerald's descriptive sentences.

English 524: American Literature 1920 to 1950 - Much better the second time around. This time I loved the book and didn't find it in any way bland. I found mystery, love, longing, and tragedy all in this novel.

This is another classic novel that I just didn't think was as great as the critics believe it to be. The story wasn't overly engaging. I found the strange love triangle between all the characters to be confusing not intriguing. Perhaps I was too young when I read it for a class, or maybe I wasn't interested simply because it was an assignment but this book only served to irritate me.
