i don't like the book it's all about greedy people. fitzgerald -from my own point of view- is a writer full of complexes i just can't understand what people like in the book even his style is weak and his ideas are not clear

If you hate the book, what is there to debate? You have clearly stated your personal preference but that has little to do with whether the book is well written or has some merit beyond your personal taste. _The Great Gatsby_ is apart of the American literary canon because it is emblematic of American culture and a seminal work of the period. Gatsby achieved the American dream yet he was unhappy. The novel is significant because of the social commentary. Everything isn't about pure entertainment and whimsy.

I hate this book with a fiery passion, and anyone willing to debate that with me... I'm open for it. Just warning you, I'm beyond convincing.

Daisy knw a great deal, but cant say she was a very decent human being, funny neither was gatsby in general, kind of a grasping donald trump sort of jerk, yet in the end he takes the fall, hmm, do you think f scott was trying to say new money was better than old money, men are more honorable than women, or was he just telling a tale and letting the chips fall where they may?

This is one of my favorite books. The imagery is just astounding, the plot structure is legendary, and the characters are flawed in the greatest way.
    Read it. Seriously.

I never read this book in high school but I can see why teachers choose it. There is lots of imagery, particularly references to flowers and blooms whenever Daisy comes into the picture. There is also some fairly obvious foreshadowing and I could see how teachers would be able to come up with reams of questions to ask students. Overall I enjoyed this book but I wouldn't say it was my favourite.

I first read this book early in high school and liked it so well I bought it and read it again. Something about the lifestyle and imagery, or perhaps just a good teacher. Might be time to read it again.
