In favor of this book, it is an outstanding resource for the history of tradition. How we came to our modern traditions, right or wrong though they may now be, is fascinating.

Against this book the author goes beyond presenting historical evidence to tell the reader to take specific action. This is unnecessary and, based on the attitude presented, potentially dangerous. I happen to agree with many of his conclusions, but abandoning my church just because it is imperfect isn't good enough. I would much rather be a light and edifier than to withdrawal and tear down. Being technically right isn't necessarily good enough.

For example. I know the truth about Christmas and Easter, but if I get in front of church and tear down those things I know it has the potential to do far more harm than good. There is a right way and a wrong way to present truth.
