“A lot of people can say a lot things over “Catcher in the Rye” such as the way of expressions that the books have or the symbolism in it (...the name “Holden” represents why he is isolated from this phony world...bla bla..., almost every name in a book means something) or the way how...

A whole lot of nothing. I hated this book. Why is it praised so highly?

Not sure what all the hype is all about. Why was this book banned? The title is misleading, but you find out what it really means. I liked the narrator's diction, but he was very repetitive and I couldn't figure out the reasons for any of the things he did/didn't do.

With this novel, you either get it or you don't. The main character had so many quirks that it was hard not to identify with him in some way. However, my favorite part was his gritty narrative; I could almost feel myself slipping into a teenager's mindset. It was a great picture of the struggle to find direction and purpose in life.

I did not like the writing style nor the story. I don't understand the hype surrounding this book. There are far better "coming of age" books.

Don't see what the hype is all about. It's interesting yes, but the teenage angst supposedly displayed in the novel didn't for me, warrant the status of a 'classic' that it enjoys

Although this book is a classic, I did not enjoy the story. Holden is a boy that gets kicked out of multiple schools because he ends up not trying. Although it is not said, you can tell there is something mentally wrong with Holden.

As i kept reading this book, I got to know Holden's character even deeper. You get every taste of his feelings, emotions and why he is how he is. I think this book explains common struggles that teens may go through. In my opinion, I think this book shows that you will always be judged because of society. It also shows how Holden is influenced by the people around him. For example, his teacher and his sister. As you progress through the book, you realize Holden is on an long path to try and find himself. A very gripping book with many sad and happy moments.

I thought this book was alright. Salinger has quite a way with words, but I just don't understand why people love Holden so much. He's a punk, in my opinion. But it kept me turning the pages, and I would like it more if I understood why I did, so, overall, not a bad book.
