Although fifteen-year-old Joy, who uses her mind-reading ability to grant wishes for people, and her older sister Jessica, who uses the same ability to bring misery into the lives of others, do not get along, Joy tries to find and protect Jessica when she goes missing.

  • Joy: The main character. She's a freshman in high school and is able to Hear people's thoughts.
  • Jessica/Icka: Joy's older sister who's able to Hear. She hates her Hearing and tries to get rid of it.
  • Jamie: Ben's Brother. In Joy's Government class.
  • Aunt Jane: Icka's and Joy's Aunt from their Mom's side. She used to be able to Hear, but after years in the wilderness, she lost her Hearing.
  • Robert: Joy's and Icka's father. He does not Hear. His parents call him Bobbo.

  • Ben: A super-hottie. Parker and Joy have a crush on him.
