Losing her husband a year ago left Maggie Stearn despondent enough, but having her only daughter leaving for college in Chicago was devastating. The suicide attempt by Tammi, the youngest member of her Grief Group, was the last straw. The Grief Group's leader suggested they contact old friends to uplift their lives. So contact with Brookie, Maggie's old high school pal, led to several things. Those included laughter, a trip back to Fish Creek for a reunion of the old gang and a wedding reception where she came into contact again with Eric Severson, the man who'd been her first love during high school. That trip later led to a complete change for Maggie. Some of the large amount of money from her husband's death was spent to set up a Bed and Breakfast in the Harding House. Eric helped her with business details but as time went on, even though they resisted it, their original feelings for one another opened up again. There was one big problem, though. Eric was married, had been for 18 years, to Nancy, a beautiful woman who was a traveling salesperson for a cosmetics company. But Nancy had no interest in a family, something Eric found was increasingly important to him. Katy, when she came to see her mother, was unhappy with the loss of her familiar home. And the personalities of Maggie's mother Vera - and her father, Roy - couldn't have been more opposite. Maggie handled all this with her usual efficient manner, but when the relationship with Eric became critical, she had enormous decisions to make. Nancy threw a monkey wrench into things, - and her mother's and Katy's reactions didn't help matters at all.
