I was so entranced by his earlier novel, that I rushed out to get this one. It's not bad as far as "coming of age" tales go, but it was a bit of a letdown for me. It's very concisely written, and the story is good. I think Mr. Smith just set the bar a little too high with his "The Mercury Visions of Louis Daguerre"
