This is an excellent introductory resource for biblical counseling. This is on CJ Mahaney's, (founder of Soveriegn Grace Ministries), top 10 must read christian books. For his other recommendations see http://girltalk.blogs.com/girltalk/reading/

This is the book I most frequently reccomend. And that's saying something. Tripp does an amazing job getting at the realities of "minsitry" Not vocational minsitry, not professional ministry, not "called-to" ministry, But personal ministry - the ministry that you and I have with you and I every day. I was encouraged, challenged, convicted, saddened, equipped and moved the first time I read it. This is one of the few books I actually keep on my desk constantly. Every single time I pick it up I am challenged and encouraged. One of the only non-fiction books I've read more than once. You need to read this, you really do.

Although I haven't read this book fully yet, I have taken the course "Methods of Biblical Change" at the Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF) taught by Paul Tripp. This book is basically a reproduction of the content of that course put into book form. Excellent stuff. I would highly recommend (along with the book "Seeing With New Eyes" by David Powlison) for a new perspective on counseling, especially if you have only been aquainted with the "Integration model" of Christian Counseling. Paul Tripp, David Powlison, Ed Welch, Tedd Tripp, Leslie Vernick (= Authors whose books I have up on this site) all write from a "Biblical Counseling" Model, which I find to be more theologically grounded and gospel centered.

A must read for each Christian. We are an instrument to be used by God for His glory. This book is a practical approach to show you how we can be used for His glory.
