Slow at first, but the tension builds

Amazing story. Reads, incredibly, like fiction. A masterpiece of non-fiction. Chilling and educational and fascinating.

I enjoyed the three parallel stories of that thread their way through the book. It's amazing that White City ever got built!!

Very strong writing. Like the mixed style of intertwining two stories that seem unrelated but aren't.

I absolutely LOVE this book. It was so great to re-read it. It's been years since I read it, and while I remembered the basic plot, people, and whatnot, I didn't remember how great of a story-teller Erik Larson is and how easily he draws the reader into his story. I also took a History of Chicago class my senior year of college, so tons of the details and historical stuff have a strong relevance for me and I feel like I have good background on it all. So glad I got to read it again!

The book has two separate story lines. I think they were not interwoven so well. I know it's non-fiction, but I found the book a little anti-climactic.

This is an amazing and disturbing story. The psychopathic main character was a serial killing prototype. If you love Chicago - the background and history are fascinating.
