I am not doubting this guy might have had a screwed up childhood, but there is something even more disturbing about his need to share these extremely intimate and grotesque details of his life.   “ I liked this book because it has a lot of strange parts that you don't really get to read about very often in other books. This book is definitely one of a kind and I definitely would recommend it to a friend.”

  “One of the strangest books I've ever had the pleasure of reading and was in no way boring- it was definitely a page turner. A young boy who is left in the care of his mother's eccentric psychiatrist and discovers himself through all of the, shall we say, different family members. Augusten shares all of his absurd interactions with his family and his adopted family. The movie is good but doesn't come close to the book's uniqueness. Might I also mention the soundtrack is pretty great as well.”

  “A terribly bleak growing up time, so dysfunctional it seems weird, but he tells it well.
  And....he lives through it and appears stable as an adult. Who can figure?”

  “Was interesting at the time I read it. But does have some vulgar scenes, so I wouldn't read it again. I've only read one other book by this author and don't plan on reading any more of his stuff.”
