I read this book based on many reviews and discussions that I have seen about this book. I enjoyed the book but I gave it only 2 stars because of it's anti God, anti spiritual aspects of it. I know everybody has their own opinions about God and spirituality and they are entitled to those beliefs, but that aspect of the book removed 2 stars from my overall rating.

Its not an adventure book in the physical world, but an adventure in the mind of an extraordinary autistic boy; a boy with an amazing mass of knowledge bequeathed upon him. Mark Haddon is very frank with us; there is nothing in this book one cannot understand and that is what makes the reader enjoy this piece of literature.

I love books that are told from a unique perspective, like this one. Another book that I loved with a unique perspective was The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, narrated by Death. What are some other books with unique perspectives that you would recommend?

I wonder if maybe it's just that from our perspective, a train ride to London isn't that great of an adventure. I'd expected some Sherlock Holmes-y/Rain Man kind of thing, but it's actually even better than I'd expected.

The thing that struck me most, though, was that when Christopher was writing his book and tried putting in a lot of descriptions as advised, you would see what sort of things grab his attention. We would focus on the breeze and make metaphors for swaying trees, but he counted holes in shoes and gave exact dimensions of objects and places. And he couldn't make metaphors. :)

My group has this book on the shelf, and I would really appreciate some people joining the group Teen Realistic Roleplay. I don't have anyone in the group right now, and I need some members.

I saw an interview with the author, on Richard and Judy I think:) and he seemed like he might have a bit of aspergers about him, not that that's a bad thing. It was just after the success of this book and he said how he was finishing his next book on poetry] He said his next book was poetry because it was much quicker to do than finishing a book. Hmmm, I thought. It kind of put me off him a bit and I've not read anything from him since. Was a great book though, with great insight.
