Unhappiness in marriage often has a simple root cause: we speak different love languages, believes Dr. Gary Chapman. While working as a marriage counselor for more than 30 years, he identified five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. In a friendly, often humorous style, he unpacks each one. Some husbands or wives may crave focused attention; another needs regular praise. Gifts are highly important to one spouse, while another sees fixing a leaky faucet, ironing a shirt, or cooking a meal as filling their "love tank." Some partners might find physical touch makes them feel valued: holding hands, giving back rubs, and sexual contact. Chapman illustrates each love language with real-life examples from his counseling practice.
How do you discover your spouse's - and your own - love language? Chapman's short questionnaires are one of several ways to find out. Throughout the book, he also includes application... see complete book description

One of the BEST books on relationships I ever read!! The message is so simple but so many of us miss it. My husband wants to read it now. I will give this and only this book as gifts to any couple who are contemplating marriage. I have so many highlighted areas where the examples were right on target. Finally, 5 years into my marriage we have a clue!!!

I tried reading this book three times. The third time and actually got past the boring part and into the real meat of the book. I now say it is one of the greatest book you can ever read, married or not. I didn't have a bad marriage to begin with but after reading I begged my husband to read it. It took him about four days and now we have a MUCH more enriched marriage because of it. Imagine that your relationships (any relationship) has a potential for so much more. This is the book that can help you to reach any relationships full potentail. Not to mention give you an awesome understand of people.

it took me years in my marriage to figure out that my husband and i spoke different love languages. fortunately, our love for each other managed to keep us going. after reading chapman's book, i have started practising using the correct language and we are both so much happier. i use the contents in my parenting training sessions too. definitely, a book every person should read.

Give this wonderful book to the bride to be or newlywed. A great resource for those in committed relationships. Know what your love language is. Know what your lover's love language is and speak it!
