One of Asian books that I really found heart-wrenching and profound. Teaches women about compassion for one another and how friendship can truly be a treasure in lives that are difficult. Other things you learn which are not quite treasured anymore in the present are endurance, acceptance, obedience, servitude - yet in this day and age, are very much needed.

I read this book a while ago. Having recently purchased a Kindle, I was hoping to add it to my library. I found this story to be very profound. The words the author used to describe scenes and situations were so very important and not always 'flowery'. The main character's life was an interesting one to say the least. Ironic, that it was the size of her foot that afforded her a 'good life. However, that being said, she had a difficult life simply because she was a girl. Her friendship with the other girl may or may not have been a lesbian one. But more importantly, it was perhaps the only real relationship she ever had. It was a real connection and thats what made it so important and beautiful. My absolute favorite line from the entire book is the very last line she utters. That touched me. I highly recommend this book.

I just finished reading this book and I was not offended by that at all. Women were very sheltered from outside world in those times. They couldn't even decide who they were going to marry and most were virgins on their wedding night. Lily had no idea what to do as far as "bed buissness" even on her wedding night because noone in her family explained it to her. It was a very taboo subject whicis why I believe that they were not lesbians, but simply two girls trying to figure out the mysteries of the body themselves.

I have just finished reading this book this weekend. The descriptions of foot binding are the most vivid I have ever read. I found parts very moving in terms of the relationship with the protagonist’s mother, and laotong. I thought this would have been wonderful to have read in my late teens when female friendships were at their most susceptible. I would thoroughly recommend!

This book is just amazing, I read it first semester this year, and though parts were too descriptive for me, I loved this book. :]

Wow! There is barely and reviews on this book! And how can that be when it is such a breathtaking read? Well...I know the answer to that one...too many of Meyer's books taking up peoples time is what it is. But anyways....were any of you offended by any material in this book? I recommended my friend this book and she loves it, BUT she is having a problem swallowing the "lesbian" material in it. Because Snow Flower and Lily touched does not make them lesbians right?
