Now, Discover Your Strengths

by Marcus Buckingham, Donald O. Clifton

Effectively managing personnel--as well as one's own behavior--is an extraordinarily complex task that, not surprisingly, has been the subject of countless books touting what each claims is the true path to success. Overall this book is a quick and simple read that includes access to the Gallup's web strength analysis tool. This alone is worth the purchase for people you may lead in a volunteer organization who have no real appreciation for their own abilities. It will also help you to make effective use of people's talents and avoid organizational burnout. Do not expect depth here as the book only covers the surface. Knowing and using a tool such as Myers-Briggs will help you even more.

If you have ever wondered why some things come easy and others are a real chore this book is a real eye opener. Not only do the authors provide insights into our talents and skills, but they show how this knowledge can increase ones enjoyment of work and life in general.
Recommend this one to managers, parents or just the typically frustrated individual looking for focus.

Understanding your own strengths and those of people around you at home and work helps you strengthen your relationships and results. It helps you understand that people live and work out of their strengths. My suggestion is to buy it on-line, not at a book store, as people cherry-pick the codes on the dust jacket and from Amazon, you KNOW the code for the inventory has not been used. Was great discussion for our family and more than one work setting. Love the concept and the work. Easy, engaging read for something this significant.

This book and talent assessment seems to be very accurate and helpful. I've used it with two different work teams to better understand where to focus development needs and as a team-building exercise. Our team revealed their top 5 Strengths to each other with commentary and discussion. The team members reported stronger bonds because of hearing personal stories that explained Strengths. As the leader of the team, it gave me a perspective on the balance of Strengths in my team. This information helps me to better assign work and align team members to be more successful. We loved the book and the exercise and are in a better position now to discuss development plans.
