I've been trying to get through this book for quite a while . . . Even the fact that my grandfather was the defense lawyer doesn't help.

I agree with Vickie E that we must be informed about the murder that occurred. I wrote in my review that this book does a good job bringing to light that crime does not only happen in large cities, but in the small towns too. Nobody is exempt from the unfortunate tragedies that occur.

I haven't read this yet but am planning to. Just read the book, I am Scout (another version is called, Mockingbird) which is about the life of Harper Lee, her friendship with Truman Capote, and the writing of both To Kill a Mockingbird and In Cold Blood.

In Cold Blood is a story that belongs to us. It happened. It happened in our country. It happened to people who never expected anything like this would ever happen to them.
So, maybe we are somewhat responsible for knowing this story and the Clutter family, and the story of those who worked so hard to solve this crime. This story also gives us insight into the minds of those responsible for this horrific crime against these innocent people.
I don't know that it was written to entertain, as much as to inform. You might be one of the lucky ones and find that you ARE entertained while you read it, as I was (I guess you could call it that).

I'm confused as to how Dewey got on the trail of Dick and Perry.. somehow he received two police records for them, and then somehow suspected them of the crime.. I must have missed something! Can anyone point me in the right direction?
