Ironically, looking in to the GTD (Getting Things Done) system has been bouncing around in the back of my head as something to do for quite some time now. This approach to maximizing productivity is popular among the nerdegalian, probably because of its minimum bullshit approach to actually...

One of the greatest collections of insight, wisdom, and techniques for managing time, stress, and multiple tasks/projects. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

If you haven't given much (or any) thought to the basics of organization or goal-setting, this is an excellent and broad overview. However, when it comes to actually implementing the specifics of a system, GTD falls far short. I'm an efficiency consultant and constantly field very basic questions from clients familiar with Allen's system as to the "correct" or "right" way of implementing the system, when Allen himself provides no such insight. GTD is designed for broad appeal and less for actual effectiveness on a daily basis.

As one well accustomed to self-help literature, I cannot say that this book was too terribly helpful to me or changed my life in any significant way, but I can see and appreciate how it could for someone who has not read as much about personal organization as myself. A pretty quick read, it's not a masterpiece by any means but could be a good introduction into self-organization for beginners.

The concepts in the book are great. The problem I find is that it requires a hell of a learning curve, effort and will to implement. If people are so determined to try something, they are probably productive already. This is not for someone who is having attention problems or apathy. Here's a blog post that takes a rather different view on productivity, which is the opposite of what the book does: http://zenhabits.net/2009/06/the-most-powerful-way-to-get-unstuck/. I think the truth is somewhere in between.

He has a system to organize your papers, schedule, and life. I was really motivated when I first finished the book, but I still need to fully implement it in my life.

I've started implementing his ideas and am procrastinating less and have a handle on what needs to be done.

This book sorely needs to be updated for the age of computers and the Internet. Concepts are exclellent, but requires transcribing paper to keyboard.

I stole a few great ideas from this book, but didn't ever attempt to really put his system into place.
