I love Burke's writing, and this was okay, but seemed very similar in plot line and especially some of the principle characters, to his earlier work. Plus his political biases are becoming glaring; heavy-handed soapbox preaching from the author's voice.

i love every book by Burke that is a robicheaux novel. His others, where the central character is someone else, are not as good, but the Dave Robicheaux series is just my favorite detective series of all time

What a shock to the system--finishing Richard Powers’ Operation Wandering Souls and immediately picking up James Lee Burke’s Pegasus Rising. I’ve learned this: just as a diver who's spent far too long submerged and needs to slowly decompress to prevent nitrogen bubbles occluding blood vessels, so should a reader be purged of accumulated excess verbiage before turning to prose that is exquisitely economical and the better for it. Not fair to compare? OK, OK. It’s just that I have a long-term relationship with Dave, Clete and Tripod and actually feel sorry when I’ve come to the last page. I will give Richard Powers another chance to become my friend.

Myseries are a passion of mine. This series hooked me when I was a child. The early books are the best. Updated Nancy books just aren't as good

A case of the title being bigger than the book (and for that matter the dust jacket copy). Not a bad novel - I just expected something different.

James Lee Burke has written another great book. You don't always know where he's taking you but the ride is always exciting. The story in this book takes place in the days just before Katrina almost wiped out New Orleans. Dave Robicheaux must deal with his demons while trying to keep the bad guys in line. And Burke always manages to create some really bad guys. If you've never read Burke's books, start at the beginning and follow Robicheaux's life as a cop.

Just recently discovered James Lee Burke and his Louisiana police detective, Dave Robicheaux. I'm catching up as fast as I can. Can't put his books down.!
