One less star if you don't cook. Also, I started this out thinking that it was going to be another Kitchen Confidential expose of restaurant life, and so I was disappointed at first but it really a book about food. Once you get that, if you really enjoy food, it is a great read.

There were some interesting stories about Mario Batali, his restaurant, and general food history, but it was a very mediocre read overall.

    Lots of interesting stories about this guy's time as a line cook and other roles in the high-end food-creation process, but kind of disjointed so I often had no idea who he was talking about. Would have benefited from a cast of characters--every Italian name sounds the same to me.

    I liked this book a great deal, however I felt that it started to sag once they left the fast paced kitchen of Batali's Babbo and ended up in rural Italy. I liked the first 2/3 because it gave me a further taste of the high speed tempo of a high end NYC restaurant kitchen that I got from Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential".

    fascinating behind the scenes cooking in italian restaurants and going to italy to learn how to be more than a home chef. i learned a lot about food.
