    If you are looking for a great series of books to get lost in--these are it. Epic story of an English Soldier who returns from the war with America to find his fiance' married to his cousin and his property in ruins--what he makes of his life...there are, i think, 13 books...not enough....

    I'm not saying this is the greatest and most accessible historical fiction, ever, but I'm not saying it's not. Eleven volumes, here, each one of them memorable and human and beautifully written. Better characters have never been written. I pull these books out every other year and read them all again.
