"In the case of good books, the point is not how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you.", Mortimer Adler

*This is a group for book lovers who prefer to take an under-promise and over-deliver approach to their reading. It's also for those of us who quake at the thought of "committing" to read 50 books in a twelve month period.

The challenge: Set a goal for yourself to read and enjoy 2 books each month.(If 1 would be a s-t-r-e-t-c-h goal for you, that's great too! If you crave more than 2, go for it. It's your challenge :-)

If you have been keeping track of all that you've read since January 2008, feel free to include those books towards your goal. If you haven't been keeping track, simply begin now.

How it works: Put your name in the subject line of a new post, and start to add your book list. From that point on you can add to your list by replying to the first post in your thread. If you prefer to keep your thread free of others' questions or comments then you may want to include this request in your original post title (e.g. "No comments please"). If you would like questions or comments within your thread, why not include "Comments welcome" in the title? If you feel inspired to write mini-reviews or comments on any book in your list, please do. Whatever feels right for you!

The group shelf:You are also invited to add your 24 + books to the group shelf. If you did write a comment or review please also add this to your book on the shelf. In an effort to keep things simple, we're only using the "Books We've Read" shelf.

Please drop us a note if you have any questions or suggestions for improving the group. We'd love to hear from you!

Lollapalooza 36 books / 82 members / 37 posts Lollapalooza means an extreme outcome caused due to a combination of mental models working in the same direction. The term "Lollapalooza" has been borrowed from Charlie Munger, one of the smartest men I know of.

Sustainable Marketing 48 books / 72 members / 4 posts Sustainable Marketing is an evolutionary approach that promotes authenticity, community, and responsibility. These are now the critical success factors in the current marketing environment. Our fundamental values are trust in the customer and trust in our vision of a sustainable environment and society. Sustainable Marketing uses resources effectively to produce long-term business value. As a small business, you have a limited amount of money to spend on marketing, and it’s important to focus on what’s cost effective. The current top three are: Word of Mouth, Internet Marketing, and Public Relations. Effective and responsible marketing techniques do not interrupt the customer, they respond to their desires by crafting stories that generate authentic interest. And the best thing about those three is that they all reinforce each other. Sustainable Marketing encourages the process of innovation by turning the marketing process into an experimental, iterative process that has close ties to the customer. Individuals and interactions , on a daily basis are important. Customer Collaboration over customer transactions. Responding to change over blindly following a plan. Share your examples of sustainable marketing in this book group and find out more at sustainablemarketing.com http://www.sustainablemarketing.com

Web4Roots (Web 2.0 for Grassroots Causes) 17 books / 9 members / 5 posts This is a fusion group: fusion of web2.0 and grassroots. Actually that is what web 2.0 is about. We human being have many great ideas thousands of years ago. Now it is the great chance for us to accomplish those grand missions. I have a feeling that many grassroots folks are not aware of tech breakthrough and its applications, while many web2.0 techies are not aware of various social causes that many grassroots people have been fighting for generations. Computer science is a bridge between physical science and human science. We are at the beginning of a brand new world. NYC is the culture center. If we leverage this advantage, NYC will have a chance to become the dominant center of web 2.0 development. I intend to use this meetup group to explore activities to bring people from these two trenches together, to learn from each other, and to cooperate together. So you don't need to be a tech person. If you are interested in any causes, you are welcome.
