In his debut novel, The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini accomplishes what very few contemporary novelists are able to do. He manages to provide an educational and eye-opening account of a country's political turmoil--in this case, Afghanistan--while also developing characters whose heartbreaking struggles and emotional triumphs resonate with readers long after the last page has been turned over. And he does this on his first try.
The Kite Runner follows the story of Amir, the privileged son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul, and Hassan, the son of Amir's father's servant. As children in the relatively stable Afghanistan of the early 1970s, the boys are inseparable. They spend idyllic days running kites and telling stories of mystical places and powerful warriors until an unspeakable event changes the nature of their relationship forever, and eventually cements their bond in ways neither boy could have ever predicted. Though messy and emotionally raw in places, this was a good read. The writing style flowed well and the author maintained a strong voice throughout the work. The book dealt with themes such as guilt, redemption, forgiveness. Well worth the read.

I thought so, too, until I read A Thousand Splendid Suns. They are equally amazing.

    Well Dear friend ,
I just read Kite runner you must not be able to relate to now.As the book is fresh in my mind and your reviews struck me here.
Well as you said rescuing is insignificat in his story.I believe that was the only way for Aaamir to get out from his life long guilt which he was carryng wih hin since his child hood.
He would have died thinking what all Hassan did for him and what a coward he was.But that was his ultimate solace.

It's one of my favourite books. Beautiful book.. very passionate and a great writing style... I loved the phrase " for you a thousand times". Simple yet a very strong line. Also the line which talks abt both the boys first words. Loved it. It's a must read.
