Summary-----Norah and David got married and had two children. They are twins, one is a boy and one is a girl. They boy got named Paul Henry by his birth mother, Norah. When the girl, Phebe, was born she was born with Down Syndrome. David did not want Norah to know that she had another kid because she had Down Syndrome. David told the nurse to take her to a place where they keep children.
It was a horrible night out, with the snow and rain. The nurse, Caroline, was driving all night to take her to that place. When she got there she saw how bad it looked. She decided to keep Phebe and raise her with her husband. Caroline told David that she was going to raise Phebe instead of them raising her. David kept this secret from Norah and Paul their whole life.
David’s hobby was to take pictures when he wasn’t working. He had a black room right outside of the house. He was always in there. Caroline and David kept in touch when quit his job as a Doctor. Caroline would send pictures of Phebe to him and they would write each other letters. David would keep all of the pictures and letters in a drawer inside of the black room.
Caroline would take Phebe to see her brother play his instrument a couple of times. Norah knew about Caroline because of David. Norah always thought Phebe was Caroline’s daughter but never expected it to be hers. David and Norah separated. David died sortly after they separated. Norah finally went into the black room and was cleaning it out. Norah found the letters and pictures from Caroline. She asked her what it was about and Caroline finally told her.
