OK, I guess, if you like these sorts of books........but I find books like this (about business and businesses) boring as all hell. This is only my opinion, mind you - I suppose if you like these kinds of books it might be utterly fascinating. But if you don't like these kinds of books then don't even pick this up. It'll put you to sleep in five minutes.

    Dear Reader,
Over much of the first quarter of school I read The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman. Now this title can be confusing the first time you see it. What the author is saying is that the world is becoming so connected that places that are on the other side of the world seem like they are right next to America. With a newer generation the world seems to become even more “flat”. With countries like India and China working with America so much it is hard to see a line between the countries. These countries have so many American jobs that without them it would be almost impossible to thrive in this new world. So these countries have become much more important and similar to the western world. So therefore gives the title of the book The World is Flat.
Throughout the book he talks about events and ways the world was flattened. Now I am not trying to bog you down with summary information, but just trying to show the overall concept of the book. Since it is not a novel, there is no plot or story to report. It is an exceptionally different kind of notion, so I want to show the idea of it as best as I can. One of the best ways to describe the idea of the book is through this quote "In the future globalization is going to be increasingly driven by the individuals who understand the flat world, adapt themselves quickly to the processes and technologies"(67). This is talking about how the only way to survive and compete in the new flattened world is to not fight the change, but to go with it. This is one of my favorite quotes, and I think it is the best way to show the principle of the book.
I thought this idea and theory is extremely interesting. It was something I never really thought about or heard other people say. Another good thing about it is that it talks about how to thrive in this new world. The quote is a great example of how the author is trying to show how he is helping everyone with how to achieve in this world. I think this is a great book to read to learn how to succeed in this changing world.
I did not finish it, however, and decided to abandon the book and start a new one. It is an interesting book, but it is way too long. The author goes into too much detail and constantly talks about the reasons why the world is flat for over four hundred pages, so it gets extremely repetitive. The book could have easily been cut by over one hundred pages. There was no need for it to go and talk about any idea that could possibly be thought of. To add to it, since there was no major story, there was nothing holding me back from just skipping certain sections of the book. I finally got to a point where I thought I understood it enough, and I decided to read something else. Also it could be a little advanced for me since it was not meant to be written for people my age. Overall, however, I still think it is a good book, and I definitely would recommend it to any of my parents’ friends.

    Sincerely,
    Ben Cunningham
