this the story of Ora, a mother to a young soldier, Ora is going on a trek trying to escape bad news about her son.
this is a marvelous book exquisitely written from a female POV. Grossman captures the most inner feelings as well as the landscape of the land.

In a cruel twist of fate, Grossman's own son Uri was killed during Israel's second war in Lebanon as the book was in final editorial phase

Well, as an Israeli I think this book is a must read book, and should be thought in schools both in Israel and the Palestinian authority.
I think this book gives what most people in Israel are missing: a different perspective on things from the eyes of a moderate, highly intelligent professor who also happens to be Palestinian.

a must read if you leave in this conflict area and a must read if you don't

This is really an excellent book. the plot is not complex or moving too much and yet this is one of the best books I read this year, perhaps it the compelling personality of Henry Neff (the hero) he is charming in a naive yet intelligent way which I don't know how to describe.
    highly recommended!
