    Hi, Rachel--

Good to hear from you and Natasha! Sample some of my books (they're set in Colorado, mostly), and I'll see you at the Toad.

Hi! I think it's definitely worth a read—there is a lot of murder, sex and sexual violence, but the story is quite compelling. I must admit I found it pretty heavy going at times though.

This looks excellent, thanks for sharing! Here's something in return from The Guardian's books website - Top 10 Swedish crime novels by Camilla Lackberg - http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/mar/11/camilla-lackberg-swedish-crime-best
Have just bought The Book of Human Skin by Michelle Lovric. It's not crime, per se, but it looks amazing. Can't start it yet as have four other books on the go!

Hi Rachel - No I hadn't heard of Leopard so thanks for letting me know. Looks like it's his very latest. On amazon.co.uk it says don't be duped because the title is in English, the book is in German! Perhaps we'll get the English version next year? I heard recently that Jo Nesbo is appearing at the Harrogate Crime Festival which is in July. I'm not sure whether I can go. By the way, have you ever read Marianne Wesson's Render Up The Body? It's set in Boulder. I really enjoyed it.

I hope you're right! I haven't read any Russell Andrews but I've just had a quick look on amazon and he does look interesting. I might see if I can get anything from the library on audio so I can listen in the car. This is generally how I like to approach new authors as there's less effort involved! Glad you liked Out. There's a very strange atmosphere to it but it's very compelling. I'm afraid I stalled on the next one, Grotesque. Maybe I'll pick it up again at some point and have another go. I'm also really interested in Japanese as well as Chinese fiction. Haruki Murikami is an interesting writer. I liked The Wind-up Bird Chronicle a lot, though it's a long time since I read it. I've read lots of Amy Tan as well. Her books generally go backwards and forwards in time and place between pre-revolutionary China and present day USA. I particularly loved The Kitchen God's Wife. I bought Death of a Red Heroine by Qiu Xiaolong a while ago but I haven't got round to reading that yet. So many books, so little time!!!

It was just that thing of Hole saying he was thinking of going away. Got me worried!! I hope they get back together too! I am listening to another Philip Kerr on audio in the car. They're not Scandinavian but they're mainly set in Germany pre- and post-WW2. They'r excellent. Have you read any?

Hi Rachel. I finished The snowman at the weekend. Nesbo gets better and better and Hole has developed so well as a character! I'm a bit worried by the ending in case nesbo is thinking of not doing any more Hole books. What did you think?

Thanks Rachel, I am going to try Out. Have u read her other books???? I have been seeing this author alot in the bookstore but never bought it. I am going to try it now. Also I just bought the first 2 from Nesbo. Look forward to reading him. I also bought a couple by Henning and I bought Jar City by Indridason. I also found one by K.O. Dahl called the Man in The Window. Have you heard of him??? I am so excited but I have spent alot this weekend buying these authors that were recommended. Thanks again and I will check out Out. Do u read novels from other countries often??? I am just now getting into them. I have some of Val McDermid and Mark Billingham novels on my TBR list, but I have never heard of these other authors until now.

Hi Rachel. Sorry for the delay in responding - my laptop I use at home is being repaired and we're so busy in the office I haven't had time to look at Shelfari. Let me know if you managed to meet Jo Nesbo, that is so exciting! I started reading it on Sunday because I was officially allowed to as it was my birthday! I had to rush to finish The Interpretation of Murder so I could start The Snowman. I wasn't sure about Interpretation of Murder when I first started it but I got really hooked - it's well worth reading, if you haven't already. One of my favourite authors, Stuart MacBride, is doing a session at Gateshead Library soon and I would quite like to go but Gateshead is about 100 miles away. The company I work for has won the contract to refurbish Gateshead Central Library so I am visiting there quite a lot at present but it's a long way to go for an evening out! I don't usually go to author events as I'd rather have the relationship with the author through the book but I'd be curious to know what Jo Nesbo is like! Lucky you!!

Hello! Thanks for the note. Sadly, it's not my birthday till the end of the month - the 28th! This means my parcel from Amazon is sitting there unopened tempting me! My sister also got me two dvds that I wanted and I can't open them either!! I am reading an old Ian Rankin novel at the moment called Watchman. I think it was his first before he started the Rebus series. I can't say it's really got me hooked but I'm going to finish it. I've also just finished the Philip Kerr audiobook, The One from the Other. That was really good. I'm very interested in all the detail about the impact on ordinary people in Germany of the rise of the Nazis which the earlier books deal with. This one is set after the war and is set against the backdrop of the occupation by US, British, Russian and French forces. Bernie Gunter is very much in the vein of Rebus and Harry Hole - the typical lone maverick - so I suppose that's why I like him! Are you still catching up on the previous Nesbos before you start Snowman? Hope life is treating you well in other areas and thanks for the birthday wishes!

Thanks Rachel. I've cancelled my advance order for The Snowman as my sister is now getting it for me for my birthday next month! I've just finished Rococo by Adriana Trigiani and I'm listening to The One from the Other by Philip Kerr on audio cd in the car so I've got to find something else for my bedtime book. I'm thinking about The Interpretation of Murder but I'm not sure! Would I finish it before the Nesbo arrives?!!
