    My Tagalog is kaunti lang, but I'm trying! I can say useful phrases like 'ako po ay magpapadala ng tae sa western union," which has come in so handy, you have no idea. I can shout 'Lumayas ka!' at unwanted houseguests, but thankfully haven't had to... It's hard for a native English speaker to learn Tagalog here because everyone seems to want to speak to me in English. I'll go to a sari sari store or Chowking or something and start ordering in Tagalog, and the person always replies, "I can understand English, you know."

    Awesome, I'll check him out! I'm also reading a book by Filipino-American Noel Alumit called Letters to Montgomery Clift. Not really sure what to think of it so far; I really want to like it so badly, but there's some glaring flaws right towards the beginning that leap out of the page at me.
