"A book is not only a friend, it makes friends for you. When you have possessed a book with mind and spirit you are enriched. But when you pass it on you are enriched threefold." - Arthur Miller
One of the best things about books is the information they impart and the knowledge you may gain. Great joy is derived from reading a well-written book, where the words have been used skillfully and efficiently.
I have always liked the feel and smell of books and I appreiciate when a book has been 'broken in' properly. When I was younger, my main resource for books was the Public Library. Now I am able to surround myself, at home, with lots of books. While I still utilize the services of my wonderful public library, KPL, I love owning my own books. Not only do I get the pleasure of seeing them day in and day out...but I can take my time reading them or re-reading them at my leisure.
Aside from my love of reading books, I love to travel and have done so, extensively, throughout my life. My travels have taken me to many interesting countries around the world, but there are still a few countries I need to get to...Ireland, India, Indonesia (Bali, in particular), and parts of eastern and southern Africa. I enjoy collecting things, and have quite a number of eclectic collections. I have an affinity for antiques; both seeking and collecting them.
During the summer I travel back and forth between the house and the summer cottage. Amid the quiet of cottage life is where I try to whittle down the To Be Read pile of books and magazines, while catching a few rays, in the process!
Something I feel passionate about:
"Too often we under-estimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
-- Dr. Felice Leonardo Buscaglia
Have you ever had someone give you a brief word of encouragement, a smile, or acknowledge that they know what you're going through?
I have...and when I think back, I'm sure they had no idea that their brief gesture or kind words would have such a powerful impact on my life...but they did.
Because I have experienced the power of someone else's kindness I advocate...be generous with your encouraging words, smiles and kind gestures. Share them with many people.
Your simple act of kindness could impact someone's life or "turn their life around."
You have the power...
Life is good.
Enjoy!
