A fresh story-telling approach paired with an epic plot makes this an enjoyable, heart-warming read.

Ishiguro is a master. I loved this book on first read -- any weakness I found was due to my needing to read this book a second time to see how everything ties together more completely. A fascinating read with historical, political, and psychological explorations.

A cult classic that I found a bit weak in terms of writing and over the top in terms of rhetoric. In it's time it may have been revolutionary.

gothic romance meets magical realism. As is typical for books in these genres, it started off well and then went too far over the top. Maybe I'm just not well suited as a reader of this genre. I suppose the Pulitzer is apt only because it does show a somewhat interesting slice of Americana. It wouldn't have been my choice though.

I really enjoyed this book. Nelson explores themes central to a woman who is at a crossroads and trying to reconcile what she needs, what she wants, and what she can live with. As a package, the stories are somewhat repetitive. I would recommend reading this book in small doses for maximum enjoyment.

A classic everyone should read as a good basis for interpreting understanding the intertextuality of other pieces of literature. Still, it didn't get me as jazzed up as it does some people. It's probably because it has become so ingrained in literature that the original thoughts seem tired by now.

Not my favorite Arturo Perez-Reverte book. I did like it, though. If you like twists and turns, you'll like this erudite spin on the classic mystery.

For an erudite version of a suspense/thriller, I would recommend Arturo Perez-Reverte. High brow fun.
