Art is transferring feeling from one heart to another. - Leo Tolstoy

All the titles I’ve listed were once on my shelf, but many have since moved on to new homes. Now I only keep books I think I’ll want to read again, or share with family and friends, or use for reference. I don’t have a “Top Ten” list, but I’ve tagged many books as... more »

    Hi Sharon
You asked about the Inspector Chen books and if it matters which one you read first. I think it does but only a bit: the private life of Chen plays a large part in all the books, and of course there is change there (the love interest, his interactions with his friends,...). Personally I'd prefer to read them in order, starting with Death of a Red Heroine.

Happy Easter, Sharon. I haven't checked Shelfari much lately, and in fact my reading has been slow. Lately painting has held my interest more than anything else, but I go hot and cold on things. I've really enjoyed your recent paintings, but one of these days I need to look more closely at your Shefari shelves.
    Cheers,
    Sherry

I wrote a note in the Insiders.....on the recent activity run amuck. Told them it registers a new cover with each transaction including edits!!!! makes me look like an idiot. I Think I said nut. When I did it I went to my profile to look at something and there actually were 10 covers; it was the only book you saw.

I got Dog Day at the beach, that great bookstore/restaurant in Newport. They have great people working there who know scads about books and a woman recommended it. I haven's read it, but will put on the top of the pile. Looks like you've been exploring my shelves. The Mona Simpson you just added to your wish list I got yesterday at a place in Springfield that has limited but very nice books. Found the Harlan Ellison, Deathbird Stories that I see on many of the shelves on this site. It sounded fascinating. He is the hardest author to find, either new or used. I have only seen two used since I started looking months ago. But this guy had a paperback of that one, which is out of print. I also found a very elusive book by Karen Armstrong, Through the Narrow Gate, about her experience in the convent when she was young. It was while she was very angry and it wasn't considered a successful book. Laurie is reading The Spiral Staircase, also a memoir about that time, that is considered a fine piece of writing. Laurie, Kay and I are going to Portland to Powells tomorrow to see her. Found a mint copy of John James Audubon for a few dollars, on credit and a paper copy of A Three Dog Life. Such a great day.

Victoria and I went to Second Hand Prose and she picked up quite a few for us. Then I had three bags of books that I took to three places and I got a bunch of books on credit. A huge haul for pennies. Still have quite a few to put on here. I also spent a couple of hours at Borders looking at new ones to add to the wish list. Is the Artisan Bread cookbook that you just added the one you were talking about last week?

I was just looking at your wish list. That one by Dr. Jadick, the doctor in Iraq, I think he was the dr. that was written about in Newsweek awile back. I clipped the article and sent it to Breanne. He is an amazing man if I'm remembering corrently. He did surgeries on the front never done before, therefore saving lives that would have been lost in the past. So obviously the book looks interesting.

    Isbn,

Many books in common. I look forward to a possible friendship. Books linking friends from afar. How fun is that! Garcon (Dave)

Are you having any luck with getting this new version to work yet? I'd hate to lose you as a Shelfari friend.

Hi again Sharon. I'm moving the Omnivores Dilemma up a little on my list based on your comments. I'm not sure how the author ended Loving Frank, but since Wright's Talisen isn't too far from here I do know some things about his dalliences and the fire. He was quite the character, I hear. I hear TC Boyle speak in Madison this fall, and he is researching a novel about FLW to be called The Women.

Hi there Sharon. I see you have The Omnivores Dilemma on your shelf, but no review. Have you read it yet? I'm thinking I want to put it on my "want to read" list for 2008. MAybe Loving Frank too. Stay warm.

Hi - I was just looking at your shelves and see you have a couple of my favorite color books. I really enjoy the Quiller, and even though I am not as fond of "mouse" as Jean Dobie, I think that's a good reference too. Do you paint?
