Art is transferring feeling from one heart to another. - Leo Tolstoy

All the titles I’ve listed were once on my shelf, but many have since moved on to new homes. Now I only keep books I think I’ll want to read again, or share with family and friends, or use for reference. I don’t have a “Top Ten” list, but I’ve tagged many books as... more »

You'd think there was only one book above. I am talking about "Sister".

I am so glad you are reading this, as it has a stunning ending and I want to discuss. Let me know what you think. Haunting and startling.

Did you notice the change in the "friends" menu. I now have x number of "followers" and x number that I "am following", and if you don't want to follow them anymore, you "un-follow" them. Who comes up with this drival!!! Really creepy terms...like you are stalking or being stalked. Now you have to scroll down and down and down to see all of them. At least you're near the top so that in alpha order, you come up quickly.

And many of the new are really not, b/c Shelfari has a completely f.... system. If I just change some things it moves an old book up to new...and then again, sometimes it doesn't. Go figure.

I ordered A Plea for Eros, after seeing here and looking at the content. Should have it soon. The Farmer's Daughter is wonderful. I also saw a copy of a book Charles D'Ambrosio, Orphans, Essays. He is from Seattle. The book is from a small press, Clear Cut Press and must have small printings. Hard to find, and the amazon.com site had a new copy for $375.00; used $40. So I drove back over to B&N and got it. (12.95 - my discount).

Just finished watching a book presentation on c-span 2, with Siddhartha Mukherjee who wrote The Emperor of All Maladies, A Biography of Cancer. What a fascinating and gifted speaker. His answers to questions from the audience were brilliant. I didn't think this was a book I wanted to read, but I've changed my mind.

Shelter Me is one of the reads for the UO Book Group. Didn't read it b/c it was for the December 2009 when I went to Breanne's. I'll be interested in what you think.

Hey, I just bought the Joyce Carol Oates memoir today...you can borrow when you get up here. If you are going to tackle Fields of Fire, are you going to read [Matterhorn], which has gotten such rave reviews and was the n-f winner of the PNBA this year?

I watched the National Book Awards on BookTV last week and had noted the The Lord of Misrule to read. You'll have to tell me about it when next we meet. A couple of new mysteries for me to pick up that you have here, and that sound really good. I have been meaning to read Indridason. Several people in the UO bookgroup thought that The Gargoyle was terrific including the leader Andie.

So Sharon, how has your summer in Oregon been? We're about sucked dry of blood here in Wisconsin, it has been so perfect for mosquitoes. We took a trip to Colorado at the beginning of the month, and were relieved to have some dry air to breathe. My reading has been sloooow, but OK. The CD player in my car broke in the spring, and I'm beginning to realize how much of my readeing had been done in audio format. No real news - just thought I'd say hi.

I will bring it tomorrow since I don't plan on reading it any time soon. I just liked the review I read, and it was so nice and cheap.

[Lean on Pete is for the UO Bookgroup this month. So far I like it though it so much like My Abandonment in subject I hope I don't start comparing. One of the other group that I saw at the UO yesterday said one other member wanted to change to something lighter. And definitely Pullman was not a fan of organized religion. One of the reasons I like him so much.
