I have worked in various types of book stores for the past 10 years ranging from new independent bookstores to used bookstores as well as a book distributor. If you haven't guessed my favorite past time is books! Despite the fact I currently work in a bookstore, on my days off I can often be found browsing the shelves at the library! Please... more »

Hi, Lorilee: I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch. Hope you're doing well. Have you had your babies yet? I forgot when the due date was. I told Darra in a note that I may stop by at the next meeting to visit. Take care, Micheline

Hi Lorilee, I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling better! Hopefully you are able to get back to doing some of the things you enjoy that you weren't feeling up to before. About "The Housekeeper...": I've never read anything else the author has written, although I would if I ran across another of her novels. I seem to recall at the time reading that is the only one translated into English to date. I'm reading Maugham's "The Painted Veil" now and loving it...although still thinking about "Bloodroot." See you soon, Darra

How did you like the Unbearable Lightness of Being? Did you ever see the movie? One of my all time favorites!

Hi Lorilee, I hope you are feeling well! I see you've read and enjoyed The Housekeeper and the Professor. I read that as an ARC for Linda last year and loved it! It was one of my favorites for the year. I'm surprised it hasn't caught on more with book clubs.

Thanks for the Alice Hoffman recommendations. I wouldn't have picked them out if you hadn't told me. Ice Queen was a lovely read.
I noticed you have Grotesque by Natsuo Kirino in your favorites list...have you read Out by her as well? It was awesome!

    Hi Lorilee,

Looks like you've read a couple of really great books recently! I put "Rooftops of Tehran" on my wish list as soon as I heard about it. Looks like what I've been hearing is right on target. I've been curious about "Pie"...now that will go on my list too.

    See you soon,
    Darra

Thanks for the heads up on Cortesan. I've already read Allison Weir's Innocent Traitor and loved it. Next on the list for historical fiction is the Lady Elizabeth. Have you read it yet?

    Hi Lorilee,

I know...I'm addicted too! Since I know we like many of the same books, I check your shelf everday to see what you are reading and have added. Maybe we should link as friends.

The Trees is part of a trilogy by Conrad Richter, sometimes called The Awakening Land or the Ohio Trilogy. It tells the story of one family from late 1700s through early-mid 1800s as they move west from western PA to the OH "frontier." I think you would really enjoy it, particularly the heroine, Sayward. Best to start with The Trees, then The Fields, and finally The Town (which won the 1951 Pulitzer).

Just finished Underground America and am looking forward to Saturday evening. I'm so glad you will be there.
