Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?
- Henry Ward Beecher

My love for books started at a very young age, thanks to my parents. I grew up surrounded by books, and there was no looking back. My sister and I remember our growing years in terms of books - as we graduated from one genre/author to another - Enid Blyton,... more »

That sounds really great!Grandparents must be absolutely thrilled. I am somehow now devoting most of my time re reading Tagore. Brings new insight every time I do so. Read his novel Shesher Kobita ( Last Poem). I keep reading his poetry off and on. After a long gap I have started on a new book, TheBrief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao. Have you read Saramago ? I read Death At Intervals which has made a deep impact on me. I am wondering which other book of his should I delve into ?

Hi, It wonderful to hear from you after a really long gap! Oh, your baby looks so cute. I am currently reading Arvind Adiga's Last man In Tower. I am enjoying it, find it far better than his White Tiger. Icould be biased as this one is set in my city. I keep checking out your profile and it seems tro me you have done a good amount of reading even with little Siyona around. Keep in touch and love to baby.

Hi, saw that you are reading Water For The Elephants.I read it two years back and liked it a lot.I also saw that you have given 5 stars to The Forsyte Saga. I had read it years ago when I was in college. This was a book that was my mom's and was in several volumes, all hardbound. I was quite intimidated by the sheer size but I remember my mom telling me to read it and assuring me that it would be a very interesting read. I just wrote all this as my mother is now 85 years old and is suffering from dementia. Books bring back long lost memories like nothing else. What a gripping story that novel tells and it again shows how similar our tastes are in books.

Good to see the Things Fall Apart one, I have the text and a bengali translation but yet to finish. And I really love the poem from where the title is taken, "Things fall apart, the center can not hold, mere anarchy is loosed upon the world."

Hi bookchicha, Was going to reply to your comment on Pamuk, and then read your profile as well. I grew up in India too. It's interesting that so many of us have grown up with almost the same authors as companions. The only one I would add to your list is Alistair Maclean. I am an absolutely devoted fan. Back to Pamuk re Red, I agree that it takes a while. But the discussions on the Oriental vs Occidental when depicting people (and there are references to Akbar's court too) was fascinating.

Hi, Am into Olive Kitteridge by Elisabeth Strout. A really good writer;certainly deserves the Pulitzer for this book. This is a new kind of a novel where thirteen stories are loosely interlinked and Olive Kitteridge appears in all of them in some way or the other.Good luck with Pamuk ....

Yes, that is what i had heard about this latest from Pamuk.Would be interested to know how it shapes up finally.Did you know that he is dating Kiran Desai? And much was made of it here in India.I read Voices of Marrakesh and found it very different than any traveloge read by me.Extremely insightful and so full of love for the people of that place.Am reading Olive KItteridge at the moment.Has not disappointed me so far.Happy reading...

    Hi Sunita
Just finished reading The Book Thief.I think it is one of the most beautiful books i have ever read.Must find time to review it.Haven't been in touch for a while. How is Pamuk coming along? Would be interested to know how you find this book of his.A friend said it was kind of a glorified Mills and Boon sort of a story!Planning to start The Black Book.Cheers!
