Small-town life now appeals to this 40-something library lady. Grew up in a small town, went to the big city, moved south after becoming disillusioned by said big city and by years of midwestern winters. Married to a wonderful man, himself a voracious reader, for over 8 years.

In a nutshell, love my job,... more »

    The Ancient One says

"This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body."

Hey Traci- Unfortunately I have to report that I really disliked Conroy's new book "South of Broad"- I thought that it was overly depressing- bad thing after bad thing happened in the book and I didn't feel good by the time it was over. I have been a fan of his previous books, but this one only earned two stars from me....Jason

Hey there- it's been a while, so I thought I would drop in and say hello...how are things at the library? I am reading Pat Conroy's new novel set in Charleston "South of Broad" and I hope to read "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo next. I read several Russian novels since I last wrote including "War and Peace" (!!), "Fathers and Sons", and "Dead Souls". I am glad fall is upon us with cooler weather and football (Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons). So how are you and what have you been up to? Hope to hear from you soon, Jason

What I meant was I will keep DoAPK indefinitely on my Reading section since I will keep re-reading it till the 5th one comes out!! (^_~)

Are you kidding me? There's no way I can turn away from DoAPK till December ^g^

And yes, Josh Lanyon is a very sweet guy. He's always courteous & polite in his emails! (Another sign I'm a fanyon since I've been emailing him to let him know how much I like his works...)

Um, I found some covers on Demco. I think they're around 12' (length) and going for $15 for 50. Does that sound about right? I can't figure out what they mean by adjustable sheets & rolls. Do you purchase the exact size for the books when you're ordering for the library, or do you end up using the good old-fashioned way with scissors & rulers when you're covering the books??

Thanks so much for the tip!! I will start browsing these "stores" online & see if I can find anything that's not outrageously expensive. I usually cover my paperbacks with transparent bookcovers, but those don't work for the hardcovers.

Yup, I'm a BIG Josh Lanyon fan. I've been collecting ALL his works the past month, and am still waiting for some to arrive in the mail. I will definitely let you know how I find his latest works as soon as I'm done! (^_~)

However, I think DoAPK will be on my Reading Now shelf indefinitely till the 5th book comes out! ^g^

Oh to be a mom...there are no breaks. I do highly recommend Frost. I cant wait for the next book to come out. Her characters tend to grow on you. You are lucky that your husband enjoys some of the same books with you. My hubby always reads sports stuff but he will read a juicy chapter in my book if I make him...LOL.

    Hi,
Just checked out your shelf and I noticed you did not have Jeanine Frost on it. Her second book gets into Zombies but she makes him kind of hot...I know Eeww! But she did. There are 3 books in the series and the next one is coming out at the end of the month or next month I think. I enjoyed her books. How did you like Acevedo? I have not read anything by him but your review had me interested. I think I will check him out too.

It will probably be a while before I get to "Good Omens"- I have a number of books ahead of it on my reading calendar. I am now reading "Stardust" also by Neil Gaiman, and after that plan to read "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Authur Golden and "My Name is Red" by Orhan Pamuk. Additionally, thanks for being a good correspondent- I am always amazed at how many people won't write back if you send them a message...Jason

I am volunteering. I am mostly shelving and doing other light clerical work. "The Plague" is one of my favorite books, though it has been nearly 20 years since I read it. I also liked "The Stranger". I have never read "The Fall".

My brother Chad drew that when he was 7- he is almost 18 now. Unfortunately my scanner chopped the top of the picture off. What are you reading these days? I am reading an anthology of Langston Hughes' poems and will start another Bukowski book after that. Did I mention that I am working a couple of days a week at the public library?

If you remember, though, there were several references in the book at how light Bella's skin was...

I saw "Twilight" over the weekend. I liked it pretty well, but not as good as the book. I forgot to ask you if you have seen yet (maybe you told me and i've forgotten)? I hear that they are gearing up for "New Moon" already...

just finished watching 5 episodes of True Blood. Sookie Stackhouse looks exactly like I imagined her too be, Sam Merlotte is more handsome and Eric and bill are really good looking too. Jason is really cute.

Hey-thanks for the compliment on the pic! I thought both Bella and Edward were likable protagonists and that Bella's emotions were portrayed accurately as those belonging to a 17 year old. She was very caught up in how tragically romantic things can be at that age. I thought Edward actually showed a lot of self restraint. For the readers it would have been nice if they could have had one truly passionate kiss- but hey- I guess this is YA. I saw his actions of watching her sleep more tender than stalkerish. His love for her on one level was selfish though, as he should have never initiated things with a human girl. A question I have since Edward is trapped in a 17 year old body is he supposed to be 17 emotionally or 90 like he really is--ie is it appropriate that he be attracted to a young girl instead of an older woman? Anyway, I really liked the book and intend to read the entire series...hope you are doing well. Jason
