“Another good book from Sean Williams. He continues to write atypical fantasy. If you expect book 2 in a series to flow smoothly from the end of the first book, be in for a shock. This has only a slight relationship to the first book. I'm curious to find copies of his other series that happens between the first two books and revolves around the characters of this book. I kept feeling like he was referring to another adventure already written, and one I wanted to experience - and I was right! ”

Choice of the Cat (The Vampire Earth, Book 2)

“Continues the adventures of David Valentine in this post-apocalyptic setting of a North America reverted back to almost 1800s era technology, living off the wilderness level of development. Valentine is genetically enhanced by the Lifeweavers, the distant cousins of the Kur who have taken over Earth and live off life aura of humans via their vampiric Reapers. A slightly militaristic theme as you follow the well-intentioned, loner character around from one adventure/attack to another. Not anything terribly high brow, but I enjoy the strong sense of dark dystopia the author builds by describing the broken landscape of a future America. ”

“More from Paolini in the same vein. Enjoyable, but a bit gory. He's improved from his earlier work, but still nothing amazing. If you enjoy fantasy and enjoy easy reading like Potter, you'll love it. ”

Cauldron

“Typical McDevitt "Hutch" novel, enjoyable as the rest. His universe is a very lonely one: where great alien races have developed and thrived, only to disappear or collapse into ruin. I like how he resolved the Omega mystery. His characters are enjoyable even if they don't grow or change a lot.”

The Curse of the Mistwraith (Wars of Light & Shadow S.)

“I wanted to like this novel with the way the author developed the character conflicts. I couldn't buy into her central plot concept that a king from another world would be better than a corrupt council. Perhaps I'm too used to democracy to buy into it ;-) The 'curse' really simplifies the plot too much to 'well they have to behave this way now'. ”

The Dragonbone Chair

“This is a very long book and can take some getting through the first initial slow part. However, if you enjoy getting really immersed in a fantasy setting, this is a great candidate. Sure, there are some cliches, but the characters, plot and setting are well written so that you really get the sense of being in this fantasy world.”
