I saw that Kite Runner was on your shelf. You should also read Manil Suri's The Death of Vishnu and/or something by Dai Sijie. Dai Sijie wrote two that I have read; the first (and also my favorite of his books) was Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress and the second was Mr. Muo's Traveling Couch. All three of these books are excellent and have that whole social commentary of a foreign environment thing going on that Kite Runner had. Dai Sijie was raised in China and then fled to France in the 80's where he got his books published. Manil Suri is from India.
