Oh, I'm so glad to hear from you. Glad you like my gin and tonic. Truthfully, I drink vodka with it now. That Bombay Sapphire is delicious. I see that Kate Atkinson book on your shelf. I recently read one of hers that I liked really well. It had several story lines in it, all connected with a detective. Very good! I have hardly cooked this summer. Joe grills chicken, and I make gazpacho or a salad. We're just waiting out the heat.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

I see you're reading some interesting books. I really liked the Dog in the Night-Time, and thought it seemed realistic. I also liked his father's plan to regain his trust. I use my dog as an ice-breaker with shy, damaged kids. One 12-year-old boy said "Did you know your dog is grinning?"

Have you tried the fake sausage from Whole Foods, etc.? I've used their chorizo to stuff vegetables for my vegetarian son, and it tastes good to me, along with onions, thyme, garlic and whatever the original recipe called for. Usually for him, I just serve more starches and vegetables. Are the muslim laws like kosher? If so, I guess oysters are out. I use vegetable broth to moisten and season a lot of things. New Year's Day, with all the southern traditional greens and black-eye peas cooked with pork is a challenge, but I use crushed red peppers, vinegar, and vegetable broth for the greens. What a job we have catering to different food allergies and dietary restrictions. Once I served gazpacho to a friend who told me she was allergic to peppers. My mind heard "hot peppers" and I just happily used bell peppers. She did ask for my sangria recipe, so I guess we are still friends.

Ew! Too bad about the stuffing. Did you ever see the movie Matewan, where the Kentucky woman gave the Italian woman cornmeal, and flinched when she made polenta? It just reminded me of that scene. My husband has food poisoning phobias, so we don't stuff our turkey, and like most southerners, we have cornbread stuffing. It is good with either oysters or sausage, and I use my own fresh sage. Our meal was better than usual, with the contribution of a crunchy yummy pecan pie by my son Jack, also a spinach casserole a la Threadgills. You can get the recipe from the internet, if interested, but it is more elaborate than Laurie Colwin's and just about as good. Needs jalapenas. We had a couple of bottles of prosecco before dinner, maybe that's why it tasted so good.

I was looking at your shelf after I read your opinion on Laurie Colwin's Home Cooking. I swear I wrote my opinion before I read yours. That book sits in my kitchen and I love it. I see you have the Kate Atkinson book Case Studies and I'd be interested in your opinion. I have it and In the Woods by Jana French in my bedside mess, but haven't started either. If you like to make the creamed spinach you would be a good friend.

    Hi Blanche,
I was browsing your shelf and I see that we have many books in common! You have read Mendels Dwarf, one of my all time favorites (and few have read!). Have you read anything great lately?
I have just finished the new Geraldine Brooks (it will be out in Jan 08). It's fantastic!

Hi - I'm just figuring out how this works. I'm not reading as much as I would like. Can't seem to stay awake at night. Just read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and can't get it out of my mind. Hope all is well with you. This is fun.
