Orxy and Crake is the story of a lone survivor of a post-apocalyptic disaster. Snowman, aka Jimmy, is alone and must take care of the Crakers, a gentic bred people. The Crakers were the invention of Crake, they are a very simple people who eat plants and not much else. Snowman leaves the Crakers for a few days to forage and finds there is a possiblity that he's not the lone human survivor.

I really love Margaret Atwood's books and Orxy and Crake doesn't disappoint! I can't wait to read the follow up book in the series. I can't wait to see what happens!

Lady Amelia has been engaged to the Duke of Wyndham since she was six months old. Now at the age of 21 she despairs that he will never get around to noticing much less marrying her. Once the two start to relate to each other a twist is introduced. Is her fiance really the Duke of Wyndham or not?

I really enjoyed this story, not quite the typical romance. It was a good book to read.

  • Me and My Shadow
    • Rated 4 stars

Me and My Shadow is the third and final book in the Silver Dragons story. May and Gabriel are still the likeable characters they were in the first two story. In this book May must reform the dragon heart battle a dragon mage, who's supposed to be dead, and get rid of the ex-demon lord Magdoth. A fun and funny book, Jim is back at his best.

I really like this series but I thought that the story could have been more developed and resolved. The ending didn't really seem like the end of May and Gabriel's story. I really thought there had to be another book in the series. Overall a really good read.

Light on Snow by Anita Shreve
    5/5*

Light on Snow is the story of a family torn apart by lost and how the remaining members learn how to heal. A father and his young daughter leave the big city after their wife/mother and their youngest daughter die in a car crash. The father is basicialy running from the past and his pain dragging his daughter to the edge of civilation. On one of their day walks into the woods they find a new born infant abandoned in the snow. This event helps start the healing process for the two.

I really enjoyed this book. It was such a quick and easy reading. I would have finished it in one day if I had the time. This was my first book by Anita Shreve and I really enjoyed it. I will be reading more by her, I have a couple already on the shelf.

  • Putting on the Dog

Putting on the Dog is the second in a mystery series by Cynthia Baxter. Dr Jessica Popper volunteers to take another vets place at a dog show. The mystery invovles many famous stars and the murdered photographer.

I thought the book was a fun read it was my first book by this author. I will probably read more by her. I was a little annoyed with the constant Dr Pepper?Dr Popper jokes peppered all through the book, but not enought to turn me completely from the series. Overall a good cozy mystery read.

  • The Poisonwood Bible
    • Rated 5 stars

A moving and sometimes emotionally overwhelming story of a missonary family torn apart. The Poisonwood Bible is the a story of a family torn apart by their father/husbands personality and events beyond their control. The narrative is told by the four Price sisters and their mother. The only voice not heard in this story is that of their father. I found it puzzling as to why he doesn't tell his own story. You do get bits and pieces of the fathers story from the others.

I found this book to moving and just couldn't put this book down. I will be definitely reading more books by this author.

Another great book by Ngaio Marsh. I really thought that the book was very well written with a few twists. I figured who was going to be the victim but not who was the murderer. Everyone seemed to have a motive and no one an opportunitity.

  • Bridesmaids: Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, and Six Intimate Friends
    • Rated 4 stars

The Bridesmaids is the biographical memoir of Grace Kelly and her six closest friends and her bridesmaids. Written by Judith Quine, the book tells the story of the seven friends from her viewpoint. The author readily admits that she is not close friends with the other bridesmaids and that Grace is here only connection to them. I found the book to be a little lopsided in that the book is more about Judith and Grace's relationship then with the other five bridesmaids. I did like that fact that the book was written by someone who knew Grace Kelly. It made the book more personalable.
