A gripping YA novel that also shows the importance of books and reading on expanding ones' horizons. It was kind of The Nineteenth Wife, only for young adults.

I don't know why this is my favorite Norton book, but it is.

Once again, Gabaldon has taken me to Claire and Jamie's world and, again, I didn't want to leave it! If you think there can't be more to tell, think again. Now I am jonesin' for the next book. I love the fact that the historical background is so authentic and that the characters are deep and real in every sense (even olfactory sometimes). Excellent series and a great entry in it!

I really like this series. The premise is definitely dark - i.e., torture necessary for one segment of the universe to achieve "transcendence" but the stories are gripping and you buy into the characters. It's definitely scifi with a romance element but it all hangs together and the scifi satisfies my "what if?" craving.

After the first couple in this series, I had to be in the mood to read one. But, if I was in the mood, I could chuckle all the way through. Ellie is a fun, sarcastic character and in this, her first outing, she is especially believable. The premise and romance work and the english eccentricities are fun.

Orignally I was upset with the rearrangement of characters in the PBS "Inspector Lynley" mysteries. However, I am now enjoying them although the books will always be more to my taste. The depth of pain felt by the characters because of their pasts AND their inter-weaving personal stories make these more than a mystery story.

I am addicted to this series. King has a great sense of place and I feel a kinship with the Mary Russell character. The Sherlock connection is even better than the Conan Doyle stories (to me) and adds a layer of connection to the story. Each book gets better and better and you want to go along for the deducing and the ride.

I read this book shortly before going to Scotland and how it helped to enliven my experience there - from Holyrood to Glamis Castle! While not a total fan of Conan Doyle, I enjoy the Sherlockian take-off. It was an atmopheric mystery that was, in many ways, just plain fun!

I love this author. She really speaks "teen." Not only does she have a true ear for the language but she vividly details the terror and banality of teen life. The character is well-portrayed and the situation is one that I find a lot of my high school readers identify with.

One of the most thought-provoking "what if" novels I've ever read - and I've read a lot! I have always liked the post-apocalyptic type fiction genre. This one is creepily possible and as a woman who has seen a change in our status since my childhood, I can easily see the possibilities.
