I live in Northern CA, am a web designer and Social Media marketer. I have 2 kids, and happily married.

I love books - all sorts of books, but don't have a lot of time to read. So I download many to my ipod, and usually have something in paper (or on my Kindle) going at the same time. My hobbies include glass blowing, boating and... more »

This is a good mass market airport book. I will read the follow-up, as it really does leave you hanging.

All I can say is WOW. This book is beautifully written. The language and fluid characters are by far the most vivid I've encountered in short stories. The stories, however are not uplifting, but just raw and full of the most fundamental emotions possible. When I finished it, I had similar feelings as when I finished "The Road", in that it's a bleak tale. The stories are captivating, and none are similar except for their description of tough circumstances and their Wyoming locations. I would highly recommend this book as a literary win. I will seek out more of her work.

I did not read any of SMs previous books, which I know are very popular with the teen readers. So I'll not try and compare it to that previous work.

I can say that I very much enjoyed this book. Overall, the plot was very unique. I liked the idea of seeing and evaluating our species from another view point. I enjoyed the battle between the human emotions of Melanie, and the alien personality of Wanderer.

It did get tiresome at times with some of the repitition "now they will kill me", and some of the other themes that were beaten into our heads. But I loved the stories of other planets, and how these parasites came to inhabit our human bodies. Assisted by the Spiders, and battles of the Claw Beasts were just awesome sci-fi stories.

This was a long book, and tiresome at times. But I was sad when it was over - so fo me the sign of a great book/journey! I'd read a sequel.

Barely 3 stars. Patterson is hit or miss for me any more. He was ALWAYS a hit 10 years ago, but well... now not so much. This book was filled with cliches - how many times can one character "listen to her gut" and can "the Family Dunn be DONE". And really, are children arguing petty games as their boat sinks? And Mom is just soldiering through it? I was hoping for a nail biter adventure (like "Honeymoon") but got more of a Danielle Steele type of book. It was still readable, but not terribly memorable.

This book was completely different from Pieces & Leonard. It was a frantic jumble of may tiny stories, most of which did not co-mingle. I didn't care for the history inserts, nor the Carlin style ramblings about Freeways. But overall, I enjoyed the character and plot development very much. I would read a continuation, which seems a natural follow here. It is left VERY open ended (for about 25 stories!!).

Just light and fun. A great beach book - especially the short story format - makes it easy to pick back up after a few minutes.

This book captured me. It was one of my favorite books from last year (after Water for Elephants). Liesel and Max are a beautifully told story.

This was a good one! And it wasn't a continuation of his last book, but there were some references to past characters.

One of the scariest books I read (back in college)

I enjoyed this book a lot. I could see where it was going, but it still threw a few curves. The main character is really likeable. This is a really fast read that will keep you up past your bed time.
