  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

Amusing but rarely laugh-out-loud funny, which is what I was hoping for.

The story contained in these pages will disappear the moment you turn the last page.

Moves like a speeding bullet through the past few years of financial history. A real "financial thriller".

It really deserves only 2 1/2 stars but I'll round up. The book makes you feel filthy, not because of the subject matter (though it deflates any fun notions you might have about pornography). It's depressing because of the wasted lives that it deals with, and it does not even do so with Mr. Palahniuk's usual flair and comedic sensibility.

I'll let John Updike speak for me this time ...

"DeLillo’s fervent intelligence and his fastidious, edgy prose... weave halos of import around every event", that "The trouble with a tale where anything can happen is that somehow nothing happens."

$60,000, 746 birds, and 275,000 miles traveled. The three "heroes" of this intersting and surprisingly exciting read might ... just might ... be crazy.

Much more graphically violent than you would think, seeing as how the novel rests comfortably on the YA shelves in stores.

That said, this is a GREAT and fantastic read. My only concern is that I will devour the remaining two books so quickly that I'll spend days lamenting the end of the trilogy.

The comparisons to Steig Larsson and Henning Mankell are hyperbole at best.

'Robert Langdon' adventures from best to worst ... ANGELS & DEMONS, THE DA VINCI CODE, and finally THE LOST SYMBOL.
